Madagascar Island Escape

Nosy Be 3 nights
Nosy Sakatia 2 nights
Nosy Be 2 nights

Day 1 Johannesburg/Nosy Be: Fly from Johannesburg to the small island of Nosy Be, which lies off Madagascar’s north west coast. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2 Nosy Be: Full day at leisure to relax on the golden sands or snorkel within the crystal clear waters.

Day 3 Nosy Be: Today’s excursion begins with the marine reserve of Nosy Tanikely, where you are provided with snorkels and if you’re lucky will have the chance to swim with sea turtles and see a variety of colourful fish and sea stars. Travel onwards to Nosy Komba for an insight to the Sakalava tribe. You’ll visit a village where local people display handicrafts before you continue to a lemur reserve and also enjoy a short walk in the island’s tropical forest.

Day 4 Nosy Be/Nosy Sakatia: Morning transfer to Nosy Sakatia and the remainder of the day is at leisure.

Day 5 Nosy Sakatia: A full day at leisure. For dive enthusiasts, Nosy Sakatia is renowned for the diversity of corals and, depending on the season, divers can often see whales and whale sharks, along with green turtles and numerous tropical fish. There are seven dive sites right in front of the lodge and 20 more further out (all diving is at additional expense). For non-divers, the lodge can organise a tour by pirogue (traditional dug out) to go around the island and hopefully see green turtles in the reefs. Alternatively, there are a variety of walks on the island, or you may simply opt to laze on the beach.

Day 6 Nosy Sakatia/Nosy Be: Morning transfer back to Nosy Be and a guided walking excursion to the Lokobe Reserve, home to the last remaining Sambirano primary forest of Nosy Be. This humid forest is a natural habitat for the endangered black lemur and several other lemur species. Additional wildlife to keep an eye out for includes the pygmy kingfisher and spectacular panther chameleon.

Day 7 Nosy Be: Full day at leisure, so perhaps enjoy further snorkelling, diving or other water-based activities.

Day 8 Nosy Be/Johannesburg: Transfer to the airport for your return flight to Johannesburg.
