Modern new home designed to promote happy working environment

Premier Holidays is stepping into the 21st century following a company move to a new state-of-the-art building which has staff happiness and well-being at its forefront. 

The Independent tour operator's modern new home in the heart of the Cambridgeshire countryside has been inspired by forward-thinking companies such as Google and Facebook, incorporating contemporary designs and quirky fixtures to foster a healthy and happy working environment.

A number of oasis areas and social hubs have been set up to encourage employees to chat and take a break, with picnic benches, sound-proof pods and the 'Cow Shed', which resembles a countryside setting with its astro turf, all striving to create a fun and dynamic office space. Desks are surrounded by feel-good floor-to-ceiling posters of idyllic beach scenes, indoor palm trees and surf boards to inspire the team.

A bigger and better staff room features a quirky ski lift next to a snowy mountain backdrop, a beach hut and airport-style dining facilities. There is also a large flat-screen TV with internet, PlayStation and Netflix, enabling employees to completely switch off from work.

The travel firm, which has created a new well-being policy to coincide with its relocation, is also encouraging employees to get active during the working day. It has put together 'get active' cards that feature simple stretches to do at desks, while Premier's newly-created Evolve well-being team will be organising activities such as lunchtime walking groups and after work running clubs. Bikes are also available for people to use on lunch breaks.

Premier's relocation to Cambourne in south Cambridgeshire - on the outskirts of its long-term hometown of Cambridge - comes as the group continues to celebrate its 80th birthday this year.

Susan Papworth, group managing director, said: "2016 is the end of an era for us and the whole company is excited to look to the future. Our move to more modern premises has brought a lot of change to Premier – we want to alter the culture and ethos of the business to make it more cutting edge, a fun place to work and, above all, to give our employees a sense of pride in their company.

"We are placing a big emphasis on staff well-being and have put numerous things in place to encourage people to exercise and be more social. We spend so much of our life at work that we really want Premier to be a welcoming and friendly place for all."
