Beyond Yangon

Kyaikhto 1 night
Hpa-an 1 night
Mawlamyine 2 nights

Day 1 Yangon/Kyaikhto: Depart from Yangon and stop at the Htauk Kyan Allied War Cemetery. Continue to Bago and explore the main market, visit a local monastery to observe the daily lives of the monks and then view the highly venerated Shwemawdaw Paya. Continue to Shwethalyaung Buddha before proceeding to Kyaikhto.

Day 2 Kyaikhto/Hpa-an: Begin with a visit to the sacred Golden Rock shrine, which appears to defy gravity from its perch atop Mt Kyaikhto. Depart for Kawgun Cave, a natural limestone cave whose entrance is intricately adorned 15th century Buddha images. Continue to Eindu village and visit the large natural Saddan Cave, Lumbini Garden and finally, Kyauk Ka Latt Pagoda for the sunset.

Day 3 Hpa-an/Mawlamyine: Drive to Kaw Nhat and Kado villages and observe the beautiful ornate monastery in Kaw Nhat village. After a visit of Bo Daw Kyaung, check out another old monastery in Kado village before a boat excursion to Guangse Kyun (Shampoo Island), a picturesque island so named because during the Ava period the annual royal hair washing ceremony customarily used water taken from a spring on the island. Continue to Mawlamyine, an attractive, leafy, tropical town with a ridge of stupa-capped hills on one side and the sea on the other. Visit Kyaikthanlan Paya and visit View Point, especially beautiful at sunset or sunrise.

Day 4 Mawlamyine: Head south and stop at the peaceful village of Kyaikmayaw, home to the largest reclining Buddha in the world; and Mudon, an area famous for its weaving villages. Arrive in Thanbyuzat, formerly the endpoint of the infamous “Death Railway” that crossed the River Kwai into Thailand, then continue to the Japanese and the Allied War Cemeteries. Head to Kyaikkami to visit Ye Le Pagoda, a simple pagoda built out into the ocean, with beautiful views over the water. Return to Mawlamyine, stopping en route at the beaches at Setse.

Day 5 Mawlamyine/Yangon: After breakfast begin the journey back to Yangon, En route, visit Thaton, home to colonial mansions and several older hillside stupas. Your tour concludes early evening on arrival in Yangon.
