Montréal 1 night
ms Veendam 7 nights

Day 1: Fly to Montréal. On arrival transfer to your hotel.

Day 2 Montréal/cruise: At leisure before you make your way to the port to board ms Veendam. Head out of Montréal and experience the spectacular St Lawrence River. Known as the ‘big waterway’ it encompasses several lakes and three archipelagos. As you cruise, watch for whales, porpoises and dolphins as well as countless bird species.

Day 3 Québec City: Dock in Québec City and enjoy the many sights. Perhaps visit Chateau Frontenac Hotel. Built to evoke a mountain castle, the hotel sits atop a cape above the St Lawrence River and is part of the city’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is sure to remind you of Europe. From there, take the funicular or the ‘neckbreaking steps’ down to the Lower Town with highlights including Notre Dame des Victoires, the Petit Champlain district and the Musée de la Civilisation before reboarding for an afternoon departure.

Day 4 At sea: Enjoy a leisurely day cruising the Gulf of St Lawrence which fringes the shores of half the provinces of Canada and is the gateway to the interior of the entire North American continent. Defined by its stunning coastline and beautiful islands, including Prince Edward Island and the Magdalen islands, it’s also home to thousands of migratory birds during spring and autumn, along with whale, porpoise and seals.

Day 5 Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island: Charlottetown is the capital of Canada’s smallest province, Prince Edward Island, as well as its largest city. It has an impressive number of Victorian houses and buildings along with an abundance of great parks to explore. Walk the cobblestones of Victoria Row, see the houses that inspired “Anne of Green Gables” or perhaps explore the wild shore of Prince Edward Island National Park.

Day 6 Sydney, Nova Scotia: Spend the day in Sydney on Cape Breton Island. There are highland villages to visit, the scenic Cabot Trail to explore and the Fortress of Louisbourg to inspect - where every barn, barracks and pipe and drum corps are as they were when King Louis’ troops occupied the site in 1744. Other sights include the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site, while hikers will discover stunning vistas within Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

Day 7 Halifax, Nova Scotia: The easy going city of Halifax is a spirited mix of world-class history and nautical-themed museums alongside bunkers and fortresses that guarded the harbour, plus striking public art, funky shops and excellent pubs. Explore the Halifax waterfront where steamships once anchored to drop off arriving immigrants at Pier 21 (Canada’s Ellis Island) and savour the low-key but classy culinary scene. Outside the city discover the weatherbeaten landscape of Nova Scotia’s south shore, with craggy coastlines, the bouldered topography of Peggy’s Cove and the German village of Lunenburg, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 8 Bar Harbor, Maine, USA: Cross into the United States and arrive in Bar Harbor, a quintessential New England coastal town. Picturesque and charming, it is a scenic and walkable town with streets lined with restaurants and boutiques. Dining on a lobster is a must, as is a scoop or two of the town’s homemade ice cream. Boat tours are available to explore the waters and islands around Bar Harbor, with seasonal opportunities to see wildlife, including whales. Bar Harbor is surrounded by the magnificent Acadia National Park, which is home to Cadillac Mountain, the tallest mountain along the eastern coast of the USA.

Day 9 Boston: Disembark the ship this morning, then transfer to the airport where your tour concludes.
