Moorea is the closest island to Tahiti, which definitely puts it on the map for island hopping. The 12 mile journey is most frequently made by ferry from Tahiti – a journey which takes around 25 minutes, although it does have an airport and the flight takes a mere 7 minutes. A coast road circles the entire island, which sits dramatically with its imposing spires high above two magnificent bays.
Moorea has fabulous brilliant white sand beaches and although there is no main town as such, there are bars and restaurants all around the coast. This is Captain Cook’s island and Cook’s Bay offers one of Moorea’s most awe-inspiring sights – that of Mount Rotui and Mount Mouaroa rising dramatically from the deep blue water.
The island is a tropical garden filled with pineapple fields and surrounded by an ocean, the colour of which has to be seen to be believed.
