Day 1 Depart UK: From selected UK airports.
Day 2 Cochin: A day to explore the beautiful port city of Cochin which remains a living homage to its varied colonial past. You may choose to take a walking tour of the Fort Kochi area for a glimpse of dwelling places built by British or Dutch traders.
Day 3 Cochin: Morning sightseeing includes the Dutch Palace which dates back to 1568, the magnificently decorated Jewish Synagogue and the Church of St Francis which is the oldest church built by Europeans in India. You will also see the famous Chinese fishing nets which are distinctly unique to Cochin. The afternoon is free to relax or explore this vibrant city further.
Day 4 Cochin/Munnar: Morning drive to Munnar, a famous hill station in the south (approx 93 miles/5-6 hours drive), home to rolling mountain scenery, craggy peaks, green forests and sprawling tea, coffee and cardamom plantations and endangered Nilgiri Thar (Ibex).
Day 5 Munnar/Periyar: Morning departure by road to Periyar through tranquil countryside and thick jungles (approx 100 miles/ 4-5 hours drive). Afternoon boat cruise on the lake of Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, home to elephants, bisons, antelopes, monkeys and bears.
Day 6 Periyar/Alleppey: Morning drive to cruise jetty (approx 125 miles/5-6 hours drive). Midday departure on a stunning traditional rice houseboat or "Kettuvallam" for a fascinating cruise through the backwaters. Enjoy the panoramic views and glimpses of life as you glide along the palm-fringed narrow canals as they wind through the vast expanse of paddy fields and neat hamlets.The labyrinth of waterways are home to wildlife including otters and turtles, while birds such as kingfishers, cormorants and terns can often be seen.
Option - spend an extra night in Kumarakom instead of one night aboard the houseboat at no extra cost.
Day 7 Alleppey/Kumarakom: Morning disembarkation. Transfer to your hotel for an afternoon at leisure. Simply relax by the pool or perhaps enjoy a treatment at the Ayurveda spa?
Day 8 Kumarakom/Cochin/UK: Depart early morning by road to Cochin airport (approx 59 miles/2 hours drive). Onward departure to the UK.
