Garden Route wildlife & safari holidays
For many people a stay in Cape Town followed by a trip along the Garden Route is their perfect South Africa holiday. Whilst in Cape Town why not take a tour or drive out to Boulders Beach and walk along the specially designed boardwalk through the Penguin Colony. For the thrill-seekers among you why not try your hand at shark-cage diving, we are able to arrange excursions from your Cape town hotel.
A One hour drive from Cape Town is the charming fishing village of Hermanus, a mecca for whale watching and offering prime views of the Southern Right Whales as they arrive in September and October.
Further along the coast is Mossel Bay, generally regarded as the starting point of the Garden Route. You shouldn't miss out on a trip out to Seal Island to see the Cape Fur Seals.
Head inland to the town of Oudtshoorn, the largest town in the Little Karoo. Here you can visit one of several fascinating Ostrich farms as well as the Cango Caves, a massive system of limestone caves at the base of the Swartberg Mountains.
Back to the coast and the town of Knysna built around a natuaral lagoon. Take the ferry to the Featherbed Nature Reserve where you can see towering milkwood trees and many species of birds. Then a full day tour of Knysna and Plettenberg Bay with stops at Birds of Eden, the largest free flight walk-through aviary in the world and Monkeyland, a sanctuary and home for many species from around the world. As you move between Knysna and Plettenberg you may chance a sighting of a school of Dolphins who frequent the area.
Port Elizabeth is the Gateway to the Big 5 Game Reserves along the Garden Route.
