The Gathering at Minneriya continues to Mesmerize
Elephants in numbers both young and old, moving majestically in herds is a sight which has prompted Lonely Planet to describe it as ‘The Sixth Most Beautiful Wildlife Spectacle’ in the world. This ‘Gathering’ of large herds of elephants around 300 in number takes place each year, in late September / October, at the Minneriya Reservoir, in the North Central Province. Around 4000 elephants are estimated to be roaming in the wilds of Sri Lanka.
