Queensland family holidays

With its vast stretches of pristine beaches, unspoiled tropical islands, lush rainforests and spectacular reef, Queensland is the ultimate holiday destination. You’ll also find a wealth of diverse experiences and activities on offer in this unforgettable and magical region.

As Australia’s sunshine state, Queensland offers more than just a sunny climate. It boasts an abundance of natural attractions, vibrant cities, relaxed seaside towns, gourmet food and wine, world class shopping, chic bars and cafes, vibrant nightlife and bags of character.

Cairns is the capital of the far north and popular because of its proximity to so many attractions and as an ideal starting point for the region. It is the primary gateway to the reef and the city boasts a swimming lagoon, busy marina, beachfront and alfresco dining and a revamped promenade. You can enjoy peaceful beaches to the north of the city, walk or zip through the ancient rainforest canopy, raft through rapids, snorkel or dive with brightly coloured fish in an underwater paradise or cruise around some of the most beautiful islands in the world.

Port Douglas, a lovely resort town just one hour north of Cairns, is a great base for exploring much of what Northern Queensland has to offer. It is also an ideal place for a day trip up to the rainforest and pristine beach at Cape Tribulation, just 90 minutes drive up the coast.

The Daintree Cape Tribulation coast is where the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree rainforest meet - the only place on earth where two World Heritage areas exist side by side. Another great day trip is also the nearby Atherton Tablelands meaning you have the choice of three remarkably different experiences all placed within easy reach.

The Whitsundays and Queensland Islands are famed for their pristine beaches and crystal clears waters, this stunning group of islands just off the Queensland coast offers one of the finest sailing and cruising areas in the world alongside stunning island resorts. You will be amazed by the natural beauty of these islands and see why they are the perfect haven for relaxation.

Airlie Beach is the cosmopolitan gateway to the islands, and from here there are two options. Staying on the islands allows you to have the resort facilities and be able to go snorkelling, bush walking and enjoy the beach. All idyllic in their own way, but each caters for a slightly different client.

Cruising around the islands allows you to spend one or more days sailing around the islands, putting ashore or dropping anchor at times for diving, snorkelling and to enjoy the beaches. Green Island and Fitzroy Island can be easily reached via a day trip, both with day visitor facilities available and sports equipment to hire.

The Sunshine Coast has over 60 miles of stunning beaches dotted with laid back seaside towns and backed by lush hinterland. South from Brisbane you will find the Gold Coast, with miles and miles of great surfing beaches, world famous theme parks and lush green rainforest.

Fraser Island, stretching 75 miles in length, the world heritage listed island offers vast white beaches, beautiful headlands and lush rainforests. Its breathtaking beauty and the fact that it is the world’s largest sand island make it one of the most sought after destinations on the Sunshine Coast. You will share the island with kangaroos, wallabies and dingoes and, from August to October, may also be able to spot humpback whales migrating off the coast.
