Koh Samet
If you are looking for something different, then, look no further. This delightful island, just five miles off the eastern Gulf of Thailand, is designated a national park and, in fact, all visitors have to pay an entrance fee on arrival – approx £3.50. However, you’re not likely to begrudge this when you see the pristine white sand beaches stretching along its 60 miles of coastline.
The majority of beaches, including Had Sai Kaew, one of the main tourist areas, are located on the northern and eastern sides of this T-shaped island, whereas only a few, that is, Ao Prao, Ao Kham and Ao Kiu Na Nai lie on the west.
This is an island for those in search of peace and relaxation and the most strenuous activities on offer are swimming and sunbathing, although divers will find the marine park a coral haven. Nightlife is not really on the menu, but total rest and recuperation most certainly are!
