The place
Welcome to the new frontier! Western Australia is one of the oldest lands on earth and boasts an Aboriginal history which dates back over 40,000 years. Rugged, barren desert cedes into miles and miles of untouched white sand coasts in a land which is one of the most isolated in the world.
Diversity is the name of the game, as this vast region, from the temperate south to the tropical north, offers holiday experiences to match any traveller’s dreams.
The facts
Geography: 960,000 square miles - the same size as India, but with a population of only 2 million - over 1.5 million live in Perth! This is a vast state, which covers almost a third of the country and is mostly desert, although the north is lush and tropical. Perth is closer to Singapore than Sydney.

Local time: GMT + 8 hours
Climate: Western Australia enjoys a Mediterranean climate with four seasons, although winters are not truly cold. However, the 40% of the state, which is above the Tropic of Capricorn, is tropical with two seasons – the Wet from December to March and the Dry from April to November.
Airport information: Perth Airport City Shuttle service operates the 8 mile journey to the city from both the international and domestic terminals. Taxis cost around A$35.
