Tasmania may only be 150 miles away from mainland Australia but it is a whole world apart. It has glacial lakes, lush green valleys, undeveloped coastlines and amazing mountains, not dissimilar to New Zealand, and there are faint echoes of England with old fashioned B&Bs, fish and chip suppers and cream teas.

Geography: Tasmania is one of the world’s most mountainous islands. It is a rugged place with craggy mountains, untamed rivers and dense forest in the west and picturesque bays, rolling hills and pristine white beaches.

Climate: Summer’s average maximum temperature is 21°C and winter is 12°C. Inland, above sea level, temperatures are much cooler and can fall below freezing in the winter. Hobart is Australia's second driest city with an annual rainfall of 25 inches while on the west coast, the rainforests thrive on an average of 95 inches of rain per year.
Airport information: Hobart Airport is 13 miles and a 25 minute drive from the centre. There are frequent shuttle buses, limousines and taxis to get you into the city.
