The Facts
Southern Queensland
Geography: Southern Queensland has an extravagantly diverse landscape. It is dominated by a stunning coastline, lush rainforests and mountains and inland, it gives way to flat, agricultural land to the west.
Travelling time: Approximately 24 hours from London
Local time: GMT + 10 hours
Climate: Southern Queensland has the most comfortable temperatures in the whole of Australia. During summer the temperatures range from 20 to 28 °C when the weather is hot and humid and in the winter from 9 to 20 °C when it is mild and sunny.
Airport information: Brisbane airport is 8 miles from the city. Regular bus and train services run into the city, to the Gold Coast and to the Sunshine Coast. A taxi into the city will take 25 minutes.
Tropical North Queensland
Geography: Northern Queensland has an extravagantly diverse landscape. It is dominated by a stunning coastline, lush rainforests, and mountains, arid dry or overflowing riverbeds and of course the Great Barrier Reef.
Travelling time: Approximately 25 hours from London
Local time: GMT + 10 hours
Climate: The region has a tropical climate with temperatures in the summer reaching between 24 and 35°C and 14 to 26°C in winter. Summer months, November to May, will see the highest level of rainfall, but as a whole it has 300 sunny days per year.
Airport information: Cairns Airport is 41/2 miles north of the city centre and about 20 minutes by taxi. Buses offer a shuttle to the city, northern beaches, Palm Cove and Port Douglas.
