Blue Mountains

The region is named for the blue haze, caused by the fine mist given off by the eucalyptus trees, which frequently shrouds themountains. The World Heritage listed Blue Mountains region is an area of rugged scenery incorporating sandstone cliffs and tree-filled gorges with the spectacular Three Sisters and the vistas of the Jamieson Valley its most visited sight. The pretty town of Katoomba with its art deco shops facades, eclectic boutiques and café culture is the unofficial centre and a great place to relax and unwind. On the edge of the Blue Mountains, the world famous Jenolan Caves are Australia’s most awe-inspiring limestone caves.
